In January 1939, the Bureau of the Census issued a list of African American aviators. As a pilot with a private license, Dale L. White, Sr., was listed on page four. The front page included Cornelius Coffey, one of the organizers of the Challenger Air Pilots Association, and William J. Powell, author of Black Wings.
