Reminder: Free Timed-Entry Passes are required to visit the Museum in DC.

Located in Washington, DC, on the National Mall between the U.S. Capitol and the Smithsonian Castle. Bordered by Independence Avenue, Jefferson Drive, and 4th and 7th Streets, SW, the entrance is on Independence Ave.

Parking

Limited metered street parking is available. Please read signs carefully for parking hours and permit restrictions. Parking is available in several commercial parking lots.

You can use ParkWhiz to reserve a parking spot near the Museum in advance.

More information about parking along the National Mall is available from the National Park Service.

Bus parking is not available at our Washington, DC location. Buses can drop off and pick up at the Independence Avenue entrance.

Public Transportation

Metrorail/Metrobus: The Museum is near Metrorail (subway) stops on the blue, orange, silver, and green lines. The closest Metrorail stop is at L'Enfant Plaza. Metrobus stops are located on Independence Avenue, SW, and along 7th Street, SW. Visit the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority website for more information.

Walking, Scooters, or Bicycles

The Museum is within walking distance from other Smithsonian museums and popular destinations in Washington, DC. Scooters, e-bikes, and bicycles are available for rent around DC, including Capital Bikeshare.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Distance: 3.7 miles
Driving Directions
Public Transportation: Metrorail service from the Ronald Regan Washington National Airport to L'Enfant Plaza on the yellow line. Metrobus and taxi service are also available.

Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI)
Distance: 32.7 miles
Driving Directions
Public Transportation: Connecting service via rail and bus. 
Option1: Amtrak or Marc Rail (BWI rail station) service to Metrorail (red line) at Union Station, Washington, DC. There is connecting Metrorail to Smithsonian or L'Enfant Plaza stations.
Option 2: Express Metrobus (Route B30) service to Greenbelt Metrorail station (green line). There is connecting Metrorail to Smithsonian or L'Enfant Plaza stations.

Driving Directions (Note: Tolls on Route 267, I-66 is HOV-2 during rush hour)
